M2L Furniture - Artifort
  • Geoffrey Harcourt & Pierre Paulin at ICFF 2011

M2L PRESENTS: GEOFFREY HARCOURT & PIERRE PAULIN RETROSPECTIVE DURING ICFF 2011

(New York, NY – May 2011) Over the years, M2L has become the go-to place for architects and designers to find fresh contemporary furniture from Europe. Fittingly, during the 2011 edition of ICFF, the furniture importer and distributor will shine a spotlight on two of Europe’s most accomplished designers: Geoffrey Harcourt and Pierre Paulin. The booth (#2204) will feature a selection of pieces that each designer created for the world-class Dutch furniture maker Artifort. Geoffrey Harcourt will be in attendance at ICFF on Sunday and Monday (May 15 and 16) and participating in the show’s conference program, Design Entrepreneurs: Local Talent, Global Markets, on Monday, May 16.

Geoffrey Harcourt trained at the Royal College of Art in London and designed his first series of small office fauteuils for Artifort in 1962. His designs essentially introduced Artifort to the international market for contract design. Abiding by the principle “First the person, then the chair,” Harcourt has been awarded many prizes throughout his career and in 1978 was honored with the title of “Royal Designer for Industry.”

F 511 (1967) is futuristic yet pleasantly nostalgic. The chair’s comfortable shell seat rests on a solid metal base that invites people to sit down and relax in offices spaces and public spaces alike.

Chaise Lounge (1970) is Harcourt’s distinct interpretation of the chaise lounge. Powerful and sculptural yet elegant and modern, it is the perfect seat to stretch out and unwind.

T 978 (2006) is a table designed to complement the F 978 chair. With its sleek but rounded lines, it matches the chair’s glossy shell seat perfectly. The round table top is available with a 24” or 40” diameter and can be laminated, veneered or coated. The column is chrome with a polished aluminum base.

Pierre Paulin began as a freelance designer for Artifort in the 1960s, which marked the beginning of a long and fruitful collaboration. What makes his designs so distinctive is their striking, sculptural shape. With comfort as his starting point, his work remains timeless and progressive even today. Artifort still includes many of Paulin’s designs dating from the 1960s and 1970s in its permanent collection.

Orange Slice (1960) possesses a playful composition that seems to change shape with every glance. The chair is made from two completely identical shells of pressed beech wood, covered with foam on a chrome metal frame.

Tulip (1965) is an inviting armchair that spreads its half-open flower petals around the sitter. The line includes a stately Tulip with a high back and matching footstool as well as an elegant low back chair, perfect for conferences or an after-dinner chat. The large Tulip was recently reintroduced with its original cross base.

Ribbon (1966) is an artfully composed fauteuil that is as comfortable as it is unique. It features a metal frame with horizontal springs covered with foam and stretch fabric and a lacquered pressed wood base.

F 598 (1972) is a groovy shell seat that was once the darling of the avant-garde yet still remains in great demand. A special feature of the chair is its anodized or coated aluminum profile base.

  • M2L and Artifort Return to ICFF with Joint Design Exhibit

Showcasing New Furniture Lines from M2L BRAND and Artifort

(New York, NY — May 2013) This weekend, M2L – a leading purveyor of fresh, modern designs from around the globe – will return to the ICFF (May 18-22) in a joint exhibit with one of Europe’s most innovative furniture manufacturers, Artifort. In Booth 2204, M2L will showcase a number of new releases from the Dutch manufacturer including two seating lines designed by Richard Hutten, which are available in the U.S. through M2L. The exhibit will also feature a credenza from M2L’s own line of exquisitely crafted cabinetry, M2L BRAND.

After launching last fall, M2L BRAND – a line of architectural cabinetry for executive and residential applications – will make its public debut at ICFF 2013 with the BRAND office Credenza. Designed by one of America’s foremost product designers, Manfred Petri, the collection includes elegant and finely crafted desks, credenzas, buffets and media consoles. The credenza is made of premium grade North American hardwood veneer and topped with satin black back painted glass, adding enormous functionality to a space while keeping it sleek and chic. Being modular and customizable in design, the credenza offers solutions for a wide range of needs.

Artifort’s literally iconic Apps line of seating will also make its U.S. debut. Richard Hutten’s first design for Artifort will be shown in both one-person (Apps 1.0) and two-person (Apps 2.0) versions, which take their form from the ubiquitous square icons of the virtual world. Smooth, timeless and comfortable, this tech-savvy series can be upholstered in any of Artifort’s colorful, high-quality fabrics. To complement the launch, Richard Hutten will participate in ICFF Talks on Sunday, May 19 from 3-4pm, sharing his opinion on the current state of design and speaking about his products with Dwell editor-in-chief, Amanda Dameron.

A number of other innovative and contemporary furniture offerings from Artifort will be on display in the booth:

Reflex Embrace is part of Toine van den Heuvel’s Reflex sofa system. It features a high back, available in four heights, that creates privacy while the upholstery muffles and softens noise. It is also available with a tablet table, making this sofa the perfect place to concentrate or collaborate. To top it all off, the sofa is 100% recyclable.

T 905 Coffee Table is the almost inseparable pairing to Artifort's 905 comfort sofas. Ultra-minimalist in design, the table has a chrome base, matching that of the sofas. The tabletop, in natural-stained oak wood, can provide a stark material contrast, or blend more seamlessly into a modern setting with black or white lacquer.

Boson Low Coffee Table designed by the prolific French designer Patrick Norguet is inspired by the original 1960s theories surrounding the Higgs Boson. The design strikes a balance between substance and weightlessness, resulting in a simple yet compelling form that retains full functionality.

Walter Knoll “Bao” is a sumptuous and spacious seat designed by EOOS that embodies all of the qualities of a soft leather ball. The swiveling armchair combines both leather and fabric in one sweeping gesture, generating the familiar feeling of a welcoming embrace.
